My scientific interests include developmental biology of insects, with particular emphasis on the processes taking place during early stages of oogenesis. I analyze functioning of the germline stem cell niches, the asymmetries of the oocytes related to the presence of the Balbiani body within the ooplasm, as well as the morphogenesis and role of the Balbiani body during oogenesis, e.g. in the selection and inheritance of mitochondria. I also analyze the relationship between reproductive strategies (mainly viviparity) and the morphology of the female reproductive system of insects, especially earwigs.
