I study the organization of the ovary of sturgeons (Acipenseriformes), teleost fish (Teleostei) and insects (hymenoptera, lice and lice). I study the ultrastructure and development of female germline cysts and oocytes, with emphasis on the role of the nucleus and of the Balbiani body in determining cytoplasmic asymmetry in the early stages of oogenesis. I also study the differentiation of follicular cells, the formation and origin of the eggshells. My interests also include the zoology of invertebrates, medical and economic importance of protozoa and invertebrates, animal development, and cell biology.
